MY CROSSFIT LIFE

By Kami Booi (aka:  Bubbles, KAM BAM, Joy, and Laughing Lady)

I can’t imagine my life without CrossFit!

WHY I STARTED CROSSFIT: A few of my friends were talking about this new gym in town called CrossFit.  They all knew how much I enjoyed exercising and encouraged me to try it.  At first, I was Skeptical.  I had never even heard of CrossFit.  Furthermore, I surely did not want my name up on some board with my time and reps posted!  I enjoyed exercising by myself and my experience with weight lifting was minimal.  After a couple of weeks of peer pressure, I decided to give it a try.  That was nearly four years ago!

WHY I STILL DO CROSSFIT: I still do CrossFit for many reasons.  During a WOD, I am totally in the moment.  I am in the now, the present, not pondering the past or worrying about the future.  I love the sense of accomplishment I feel when I do better on a repeat WOD, when I Rx a WOD I had previously scaled or successfully do a movement such as rope climbs for the first time!  I also love working out with others and the friends I’ve made.  The social aspect of CrossFit has become a huge part of my life.

GREATEST SUCCESS: I believe my greatest success with CrossFit was coming back to the gym after I had a Double Mastectomy.  I wasn’t in a very good place mentally or emotionally at that time.  My husband basically had to push me out the door to go.  It hurt to hang on the pull-up bar, I couldn’t lift weight over my head, and I had lost all my endurance.  But with hard work, time an amazing personal trainer, and support from my CrossFit family I am stronger and more determined than ever before!!

WHAT HAS CHANGED IN MY LIFE: I live a happier, healthier, less stressful lifestyle.  I have taken on challenges that I would have never dreamed possible in the gym as well as in my personal life.  I am stronger mentally as well as physically.  This positive influence has carried on through my husband and children who have all participated in CrossFit.
