Congratulations Kris Lemman (aka Lemonade), September Member of the Month!
How long have you been doing Crossfit?
Started in December 2013; Two months before my 40th birthday!
**Hard to believe that it’s been almost 5 years – WOW!
What made you decide to join?
I was one of those people that said that I would never go to Crossfit – Simply because I didn’t think that I was capable of doing the workouts and the fear of failure!
One of my best friends kept inviting me to go with her and I kept coming up with excuses and ignoring her invite. One day she asked and told me that if I would just go with her one time she wouldn’t ask me again if I didn’t like it! At that point I gave in and agreed to attending just one time (basically to get her off my back) That was almost 5 years ago!
Now I look forward to my workouts! This is “my” time and something that I do for “me”
What is your favorite aspect of Crossfit?
The group that attends the 5am class – Everyone at CrossFit Colby is fantastic but we have a great team bond in early morning class! The people at the box have become my “CrossFit family” and I have met some of the greatest people!
Everyone is encouraging and willing to help each other! We like to watch others succeed!
I love anything with the barbell and lifting! Great accomplishment is my max deadlift @ 315#
I have competed in the CrossFit Open for the last 3 years and I’m looking forward to next year!
All the coaches!!
I could go on and on with this question!
What is your least favorite?
Running – I hate running! Not really sure why but I dread any workout that includes running; I’m sure it’s all in my head! A new pair of shoes doesn’t even make the running fun!
Have you learned anything about yourself mentally or physically in your years of Crossfit?
I’m stronger than I ever imagined both mentally and physically!
Some of my greatest accomplishments happened with the hardest workouts!
Don’t quit – You aren’t going to die!
What would your advice be to somebody who’s thinking about joining?
You can do it! We all had to start somewhere and you just have to take it one day at a time!
Consistency is important – One day a week isn’t enough! This took me awhile to figure out but you have to just make it part of your daily routine. If someone would have told me that I was going to get up at 4am to be at a 5am workout I would have thought they were crazy! Now my routine is messed up if I don’t make it.
Measure from Day 1 – I was encouraged to do this and didn’t until I was forced to about 6 months in and was shocked that 14 months later I had lost 22 ½ inches from the 8 areas that they suggest you measure.
**Visiting NorcalCrossFit in Cabo this summer was a awesome experience! It was a little overwhelming and definitely stepping out of my comfort zone but I’m so glad I didn’t pass this opportunity by!
