Congrats to our October Member of the Month, Lesley Wagoner, aka Wag or Bandy!
I have been doing CrossFit since around April of 2016. I was invited to do CrossFit by Camille Giersch. Which, I told her that there was no way I was going to join. But to get her off my back, I would go. I couldn’t believe how out of shape I was–it was embarrassing! I couldn’t even do 10 sit-ups without straining! Even though I was extremely sore, I liked how I felt emotionally! I felt like I accomplished something every single day! Even though I had to scale every work out, and still do, it was a rush and such a great feeling!
I have so many favorite parts about CrossFit: the challenges, the mindset, the accomplishments, the people you workout with, jump-roping, box jumps… I could go on and on.
My least favorite part is, without a doubt is wall balls!!! Or, anything I have to put over my head! I’m sure that’s just because that part of my body is extremely weak!
I have learned that your mindset can play a huge role in how you react to a workout every day. I like to see what is in store for me each day, wrap my mind around it, then head to the gym! I don’t ever think about NOT going…it’s not an option! I need the physical activity. It helps with my attitude and how I approach each day.
Physically, I wish I would have taken the before pictures! I think there would be a difference…not that it really matters, but I think it would be interesting to see the improvements!
I have learned so much through this process. When I turned 50, I thought…is this really it! My mobility stinks. I can’t get out of a chair without pushing off the seat. I tire easily. My flexibility is awful! But now, at the age of 55, I feel better then I did when I started! Not only do I feel physically better, but also, emotionally it has made a world of difference!
What would I say to people about joining…Why not? What do you have to lose? What fears do you have? You have to start somewhere. Most of us are not self motivated enough to come up with a workout and stick to it for very long! I know it costs money, but it’s less then a cup of coffee at Starbucks every day. That’s why I make my own at home! What’s that old saying…don’t knock it until you try it!
